The State of Acre has appeared on the national scene as a model for promoting sustainable development. With the "Florestania", (Forest Citizenship) project, inspired by the ideas of the environmentalist Chico Mendes, the State Government has invested in actions which bring together education, social justice and the consolidation of a new economic matrix, which combines the use of natural resources with environmental conservation.

This new economic structure involves the rational use of the resources that can be extracted from Acre - from the rubber plantations to the nut groves - and the rest of the abundant potential of the environment, such as: hearts of palm, guarana, cassava flour and phytotherapeutic products.
As well as its potential for ecotourism, the State of Acre has invested in consolidating a tourist circuit directed towards the Andean countries, through the integration of its border areas with Peru and Bolivia.
