Mapa do Amazonas

The capital of Amazonas is home to the Manaus Industrial Sector (PIM), an example of how it is possible to carry out good business whilst respecting nature. At the same time as it contributes towards ensuring that 98% of the native forest in the state remains intact, this important Latin American industrial park generates more than 90,000 direct and 400,000 indirect jobs, in the city of Manaus alone. A further 20,000 jobs have been generated in the other states of the Western Amazon, along with another 250,000 in the remainder of the country in the retailing, marketing and technical assistance areas.

There are more than 450 companies with high levels of technical innovation, competitiveness and productivity which combine to give an average annual turnover in excess of US$ 13 billion. Amongst the competitive advantages of the companies installed in the PIM, it is worth highlighting: the necessary infrastructure with its own energy supply network, attractive tax incentives, and skilled labor. It is strategically located, near to the Andean countries, with outlets to the Caribbean (by river and overland) and from there, to the rest of the world.

Responsible for 39% of the area of the Brazilian Amazon, the State of Amazonas also offers its potential for developing tourism and for the sustainable development of products arising from its biodiversity, such as the tropical fruit agro-industry and the cosmetics and phytotherapeutic products industries.
