OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the International Seminars can be expressed on three different levels. The first level covers the more general objectives, that is: those which are expressed by the collective gains that society in the region receives simply due to the fact that such initiatives exist. The second level concerns the objectives that are expressed by the gains that the institution brings as it collects qualified subsidies for improving its policies and making its role more in line with the public interest. The third level includes the objectives that are expressed by the cognitive gains obtained in the thematic focus chosen, for that specific year, as a guide for the subjects dealt with at each edition of the Seminars. The first level covers the permanent objectives, that is: those that will never change, although they may be improved; the second level features the periodic objectives, that is: those that are relevant to a particular institutional period, as a function of its strategic requirements; the third level covers the objectives for the year, that is: those that have been chosen to guide the choice of themes for that particular edition of the seminars. These objectives, at each of the levels mentioned, are identified below:

a) At the society (permanent) level

a1) Providing opportunities for reviewing and documenting the technical and scientific knowledge that forms the base of the regional productive dynamics;
a2) Enabling regional successes in the field of technical and scientific knowledge to gain visibility;
a3) Enabling registration and socialization of access and sharing of the knowledge generated by the regional society;
a4) Providing an environment where partnerships related to the generation and use of regional technical and scientific knowledge can arise;
a5) Providing circumstances where SUFRAMA’S contribution to the development of regional technical and scientific knowledge can be demonstrated.

b) At the institution (periodic) level

b1) Potentializing, in operational terms, public or private policy, program and strategic project planning for the region, with respect to the directives of the Manaus Free Trade Zone Model;
b2) Identifying useful advances for overcoming the bottlenecks in the different strategic areas where SUFRAMA operates, such as: technology and innovation, intellectual capital development, competitive international insertion, investment attraction, logistics, institutional development, etc;
b3) Making contributions towards improving the productive and management processes of the Manaus Industrial Sector (PIM);
b4) Identifying contributions that are relevant to improving the strategic initiatives managed by the institution, such as the Amazon Biotechnology Center (CBA) and the Manaus Industrial Sector Science, Technology and Innovation Center (CT-PIM).

c) At the thematic focus level (for 2008)

c1) Identifying public or private initiatives that are capable of potentializing or adding new qualities to the Amazon Region development process;
c2) Establishing technical and scientific bases for sustaining Amazon Region development policies which are in keeping with its potentialities and weaknesses;
c3) Identifying technical and scientific, economic, social and cultural dynamics that are capable of making contributions to or potentializing the development of the region.
