The Superintendence of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (Suframa), created by Decree-Law No. 288, of 28 February 1967 and linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), is the Federal Agency responsible for managing one of the most successful regional development projects: the Manaus Free Trade Zone.
Over the last 38 years, the economic model, idealized by the federal deputy Francisco Pereira da Silva, has been contributing to the creation of an economic base coupled with environmental conservation. The main focus of the project is the Manaus Industrial Sector (PIM), which is the second largest in South America, and has been expanding rapidly, as well as being a niche containing countless good business opportunities.
The following aspects of Suframas Strategic Plan are highlighted:
Vision To be an agency with an excellent standard of encouraging sustainable development that is recognized in Brazil and abroad.
Mission To promote sustainable development, through the generation, attraction and consolidation of investments, supported with technological training, with the aim of becoming competitive internationally.
Strategic Objectives To identify and publicize investment opportunities; to attract domestic and foreign investors and to support entrepreneurism; to obtain domestic and international recognition as an agency which encourages sustainable development; to consolidate the Manaus Industrial Sector; to search for permanent organizational innovation.
Commercial Promotion and Investment Attraction Suframa develops specific investment attraction and commercial promotion actions for products manufactured in the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) through the Commercial Promotion Center (NPC).
Amongst these actions is the holding of the Amazon International Trade Fair (FIAM), an event which takes place every two years and acts as a shop window for products from the region and the Manaus Industrial Sector (PIM), making it possible for investors to find out more about investment opportunities in the Amazon Region.
