The Agricultural District is located in the rural zone of Manaus and also covers parts of the municipalities Rio Preto da Eva and Presidente Figueiredo. It has land that enable agricultural development and which may be rationally used for activities adapted to the tropical climate. 80% of this area is dedicated to permanent conservation of the native forest.
With an area of 600,000 hectares, it houses everything from large rural businessmen to small producers, especially those working in family agriculture. There is an emphasis on fish breeding, plasticulture, and the production of turtles, fruit, vegetables, eggs, birds, pigs, palm oil (dendê) and wood.
Production from the Agricultural District nowadays supplies part of the market in Manaus, but the perspective is to increase its destinations to reach other markets.
