Zona Franca de Manaus
The Manaus Free Trade Zone is an economic development model that was introduced by the Brazilian government in 1967 to create an economic base in the Western Amazon and to promote better productive and social integration in this region of the country, thus guaranteeing sovereignty over the national borders.
After 38 years, the Manaus Free Trade Zone has been consolidated as a strategy providing successful economic and social development coupled with environmental protection and preservation, emphasizing the improvement of living standards of people in the region. Proof of this is that the state of Amazonas has kept 98% of its native forest, a world record.
The Manaus Free Trade Zone is strategically located, near the most important world markets and economic blocs, such as the Andean Community, Caricom, Mercosur and NAFTA, implying an important competitive differential for exports.
